AUTHENTIC MOROCCAN ZELLIGE.

Zellige is traditional Moroccan tile made from terracotta clay,
hand-glazed, kiln-fired, and cut by hand. It has been made the same way for
over a thousand years. Each tile carries natural variation in color, sheen, and
edge. Not a flaw. Evidence of how it is made.

Zellige Home is a Moroccan family-owned brand. Our atelier in
Fez has been open since 1912. We sell direct, with no unnecessary middlemen
between the workshop and your door.

How zellige is made

Zellige starts as raw terracotta clay. It is shaped, hand-coated
in glaze, then fired in a kiln. After firing, each tile is cut by hand using a
small hammer and chisel. The craftsmen who do this work learn from childhood. A
full apprenticeship takes close to a decade. Many more years pass before a
craftsman reaches the level of master.

The result is a tile with an uneven edge, a varied surface, and
a glaze that shifts in tone depending on the angle of the light.

Why zellige varies

The variation in authentic zellige is not a defect. It is the direct result of hard work.

Color shifts slightly from batch to batch as glaze interacts
with the clay and kiln temperature. Edges are uneven because they are cut by
hand, not machine. Surface texture varies because glaze is applied by hand.

This is what separates real zellige from zellige-look tile.
Machine-made tile is uniform. Zellige is not. That is the point.

The collection includes loose field tile, bejmat, hand-cut
mosaics, borders, hand-painted tile, trim, and decorative objects including
mosaic tabletops and mirror frames.

Where zellige can be used

Zellige works on walls, floors, kitchen backsplashes, bathroom
walls, shower surrounds, fireplace surrounds, pool lines, and outdoor surfaces.
It is suitable for wet areas when properly installed and sealed.

Caring for zellige tile

Use a pH-neutral cleaner or mild soapy water. Avoid bleach,
harsh acids, and abrasive scrubbers. On unglazed or porous surfaces, clean
spills promptly. Zellige is durable and, with basic care, will last for generations.
